(See study notes on Mt 26:41 Ga 5:13, 17.) “The works” Paul lists here are the result of what a person thinks about and does when he is influenced by the sinful flesh. The works of the flesh: In the preceding verses, Paul describes the constant conflict between “the flesh” and “the spirit.” ( Ga 5:13, 17) In the list that follows ( verses 19-21), Paul enumerates 15 works, or practices, that are related to “the flesh,” that is, sinful human nature.
